MAT Application

I have offcially applied for the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program through WOU. I finished my application and mailed it off this week. I hope to hear back from them soon! If I get accepted I will start the end of June. It is a year and half program and is mostly online. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

On another note...my doctor told me to "get off my feet and take it easy" at my appointment this week. My blood pressure is up and I am retaining a ton of water! I took her advise and left work a few weeks earlier then expected. It might be a long few weeks of "resting" but as long as our baby boy is okay...it will be worth it! And at this point no "strict" bed rest...so that is a great thing!
We had an ultrasound to check his size yesterday. They unofficially moved the due date up about a week. They said he is a healthy baby boy that is ready to come out! He is very low...head down and ready for his grand entrance! He'll just have to wait it out for about six or seven more weeks tho!

State Basketball...

I got to spend this weekend with my family at Shelby's state basketball tournament. The girls ended with a 5th place finish and the sportsmanship award. I was proud of Shelby and her team! I can't believe she is no longer a lady hilander...her senior year seems to be flying by! It was so much fun spending time with my family...everyone was there except my husband. He stayed out on overtime. I appreciate all his hard work!
The Burns girls basketball team!

Sisters...after Shelb's last game! I missed the purple memo...although I don't think I have a purple shirt that would have fit!
Mom, Shelb and Dad...
Skye, Bryce, Shelb, Brandon and Becca...I think Bryce was Shelb's biggest fan! He cheered for her during every game...even during the boys game! It was pretty darn cute.
Thanks Mom and Dad for a fun weekend! Congrats Shelby...Thanks Jeff for your great picture taking skills! And Mason and I are glad we don't have to sit on any more bleachers while he is still in my tummy!

State Wrestling...

Last weekend I was able to go watch my cousin at the Oregon State Wrestling tournament. He won the state title for 125 lbs!!! And the Burns High School wrestling team won the team title for the 9th year in a row! It was fun seeing some of my dad's side of the family. And I am so proud of Dallas!
I didn't take any pictures but I stole some from my aunt and sister-in-law!

Dallas...125 lbs State Champ!
Family that was there cheering him on...
Bryce (my nephew) saying bye to baby Mason. He even gave him kisses =) He is so adorable!
And last...the 31 week picture! I just feel bigger and bigger by the day! But now I feel like I am gaining weight all over...not just in the belly! I was 31 weeks on Wednesday. So we are down to 8 1/2 weeks...oh I can't wait!

Kids say the darndest things...

I work at a school with kids ages K-8. And as I have been "growing" there have been quite a few note-worthy comments made. I get a kick out of these kids...and thought I would share a few of these glorious moments!
  • In kindergarten I had a little girl come up and hug me as I was leaving. After our hug she looks up at me quite seriously and says..."My moms fat too!" WOW thanks sweetie =) I just laughed...didn't really know what to say to that.

  • This is my personal favorite...I am out at recess and a first grade little boy comes up to me and ask what is under my shirt. I reply "My belly.." He says "Aide, can we please have our wall ball back! We won't fight anymore." I say, "I don't have your wall ball." He says, "Yes you do...its under your shirt!!!" I proceed to tell him that I am having a baby. He doesn't believe me and really wants his ball. I finally get him convinced that there really is a baby in my tummy...not a wall ball under my shirt!

  • This is a conversation that a teacher sent me today. It is classified staff week and this particular fourth grade class was writing thank you notes. One boy decided to write me a thank you. The first draft looked like this:

"Thank you Mrs. Maki for telling kids to shut up. You have a big belly too. Love, (This Boy)"

His teacher tells him the principal probably wouldn't appreciate this note in the hallway and to try again. He says, "But she (being me) likes it! And one time she did tell everyone to shut up! At this point another student joins the conversation and says, "She's not mean, it's just hormones. She is pregnant and the hormones give her mood swings!"

And I don't really tell kids to shut-up...even though there are many moments that I want to!

These are a few of the examples of my day to day experiences with these kiddos! They come up with the funniest comments about pregnancy. I get asked daily when I am going to have him. Why it takes so long? If they can't see a clear view of my belly I get asked, did you have your baby? I get name suggestions daily...even though I have told them we picked a name they still want to give their imput. They are cute...but sometimes make me feel as big as a house! I get told that I am "fat now" or "huge" multiple times a week.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised though. Anytime I have gone in public for the last few weeks I get asked by total strangers if I am due anytime! My reply is a few more months and they proceed to give me a look of shock. And either ask if I am having twins (Ummm NO!) or say that I am going to have one "BIG BABY!" I know I have a big belly but I didn't think it was that big...oh well though. Hopefully this just means that I am growing a healthy baby boy in my tummy!

Almost 31 weeks...9 weeks til our due date! I can't wait!

29 weeks...

The other day I said to my husband..."I think my tummy has slowed down these last few weeks. I don't really feel that much bigger. Maybe I just grew early and it will slow down and I won't be HUGE!" Well I took a "belly pic" this morning and it definately doesn't look like I have slowed down! Oh well...growing baby boy! Off to the doctor again tomorrow...every two weeks now!

Valentine's Day...

Yesterday was Valentine's Day...it is not a holiday I particularly like but it is nice to take the time and appreciate your sweetheart! I told my husband that all I wanted was a finished nursery by the 15th (when he goes back to work...) and a card with more then "Love, Kevin" written in it! And the good man that he is got the room totally finished and I got about a paragraph in a card =) Which is great for him! We spent the day together at home. I made dinner and this amazing dessert (which I probably ate too much of!). We watched old movies and played some games. I kicked his butt in a game of scrabble but he turned around and destroyed me at rummy!
I couldn't be happier! I LOVE Mason's room. And so does Kev...he told me he is going to stop questioning my decorating abilities. He didn't like the idea of doing stripes but I talked him into it. And I think he is glad I did! Kev worked so hard on the room. Along with doing the room he basically had to re-arrange the house. We had to move dressers, beds, the computer, gun safe, futon and the list goes on and on...Grandpa Corkey came down and helped with the lifting and we finally have everything put in place =) Just in time for my dad and Shey to come and visit this weekend and bring the furniture! I can't wait to see them...

The final product...

I'm almost 29 weeks...11 more to go! I can't wait for Mason to get here =)

Mason's Room...

Kevin and I have been working on our little man' s room all week! We are almost done =) The dresser is painted, the walls are painted, the room is cleaned out and ready for his furniture =) All that we have left is the chair rail and then putting it all together...which is the fun part!
Pictures of our progress...
Newly painted dresser...
My tape job...took forever but so worth the end result!
After I taped I painted over the tape with brown to prevent any bleeding of the paint...

Close up...

Kevin painted the green stripes...
And pulled off the tape for our finished product! I love it! It matches his bedding perfect =) Kev is going to put in the chair rail sometime this weekend. Then we will be ready for the furniture. My dad says he is gonna bring it soon...YAY! Kev has been a huge help...I know he just LOVES doing stuff around the house for me. But I really appreciate all he does...
