Kids say the darndest things...

I work at a school with kids ages K-8. And as I have been "growing" there have been quite a few note-worthy comments made. I get a kick out of these kids...and thought I would share a few of these glorious moments!
  • In kindergarten I had a little girl come up and hug me as I was leaving. After our hug she looks up at me quite seriously and says..."My moms fat too!" WOW thanks sweetie =) I just laughed...didn't really know what to say to that.

  • This is my personal favorite...I am out at recess and a first grade little boy comes up to me and ask what is under my shirt. I reply "My belly.." He says "Aide, can we please have our wall ball back! We won't fight anymore." I say, "I don't have your wall ball." He says, "Yes you do...its under your shirt!!!" I proceed to tell him that I am having a baby. He doesn't believe me and really wants his ball. I finally get him convinced that there really is a baby in my tummy...not a wall ball under my shirt!

  • This is a conversation that a teacher sent me today. It is classified staff week and this particular fourth grade class was writing thank you notes. One boy decided to write me a thank you. The first draft looked like this:

"Thank you Mrs. Maki for telling kids to shut up. You have a big belly too. Love, (This Boy)"

His teacher tells him the principal probably wouldn't appreciate this note in the hallway and to try again. He says, "But she (being me) likes it! And one time she did tell everyone to shut up! At this point another student joins the conversation and says, "She's not mean, it's just hormones. She is pregnant and the hormones give her mood swings!"

And I don't really tell kids to shut-up...even though there are many moments that I want to!

These are a few of the examples of my day to day experiences with these kiddos! They come up with the funniest comments about pregnancy. I get asked daily when I am going to have him. Why it takes so long? If they can't see a clear view of my belly I get asked, did you have your baby? I get name suggestions daily...even though I have told them we picked a name they still want to give their imput. They are cute...but sometimes make me feel as big as a house! I get told that I am "fat now" or "huge" multiple times a week.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised though. Anytime I have gone in public for the last few weeks I get asked by total strangers if I am due anytime! My reply is a few more months and they proceed to give me a look of shock. And either ask if I am having twins (Ummm NO!) or say that I am going to have one "BIG BABY!" I know I have a big belly but I didn't think it was that big...oh well though. Hopefully this just means that I am growing a healthy baby boy in my tummy!

Almost 31 weeks...9 weeks til our due date! I can't wait!

29 weeks...

The other day I said to my husband..."I think my tummy has slowed down these last few weeks. I don't really feel that much bigger. Maybe I just grew early and it will slow down and I won't be HUGE!" Well I took a "belly pic" this morning and it definately doesn't look like I have slowed down! Oh well...growing baby boy! Off to the doctor again tomorrow...every two weeks now!

Valentine's Day...

Yesterday was Valentine's Day...it is not a holiday I particularly like but it is nice to take the time and appreciate your sweetheart! I told my husband that all I wanted was a finished nursery by the 15th (when he goes back to work...) and a card with more then "Love, Kevin" written in it! And the good man that he is got the room totally finished and I got about a paragraph in a card =) Which is great for him! We spent the day together at home. I made dinner and this amazing dessert (which I probably ate too much of!). We watched old movies and played some games. I kicked his butt in a game of scrabble but he turned around and destroyed me at rummy!
I couldn't be happier! I LOVE Mason's room. And so does Kev...he told me he is going to stop questioning my decorating abilities. He didn't like the idea of doing stripes but I talked him into it. And I think he is glad I did! Kev worked so hard on the room. Along with doing the room he basically had to re-arrange the house. We had to move dressers, beds, the computer, gun safe, futon and the list goes on and on...Grandpa Corkey came down and helped with the lifting and we finally have everything put in place =) Just in time for my dad and Shey to come and visit this weekend and bring the furniture! I can't wait to see them...

The final product...

I'm almost 29 weeks...11 more to go! I can't wait for Mason to get here =)

Mason's Room...

Kevin and I have been working on our little man' s room all week! We are almost done =) The dresser is painted, the walls are painted, the room is cleaned out and ready for his furniture =) All that we have left is the chair rail and then putting it all together...which is the fun part!
Pictures of our progress...
Newly painted dresser...
My tape job...took forever but so worth the end result!
After I taped I painted over the tape with brown to prevent any bleeding of the paint...

Close up...

Kevin painted the green stripes...
And pulled off the tape for our finished product! I love it! It matches his bedding perfect =) Kev is going to put in the chair rail sometime this weekend. Then we will be ready for the furniture. My dad says he is gonna bring it soon...YAY! Kev has been a huge help...I know he just LOVES doing stuff around the house for me. But I really appreciate all he does...

Ultrasound!

Our son has officially inherited our stubborn personalities! Yesterday I met my sister in Portland to go get our 3-D ultrasound. Little Mason wasn't too cooperative during the 20 week ultrasound...so I was keeping my fingers crossed that he would cooperate this time! No such luck...he was a pill! And the ultrasound tech tried everything to get him to move...we poked at him, I had to get on my hands and knees and try to shake him around, she had me eat candy and run up and down the stairs to try and make him move! He was laying sideways across my stomach and would not budge! And the one time he did he turned the WRONG way! He was trying to sleep and we were interrupting his nap time! He would kick at us to try and get us to leave him alone but would never move.
We did get some good pictures and I love watching the DVD! He is adorable and I just love his precious little face so much =) I'm not one to say that babies really look like one parent or the other...but so far the verdict is that he looks more like Kev! (Not that you can really tell...!) He opened his eyes at one point, he was yawning, showing off his biceps and had his feet up by his head most of the ultrasound! We did get the confirmation that he is definately a little boy! The ultrasound tech saw some hair...so we'll see if he comes out with light hair like his daddy or with my dark hair! Here are some of the pictures...

I just love him so much already and cannot wait to finally meet him! It was so fun to see him yesterday...he is so precious and has quite the little personality! But I don't know if this house can handle any more stubbornness...

108 Days...

Am I really already counting?!? I am so anxious!!! We are getting stuff little by little and with each thing that gets stacked in our little man's room the more anxious I get! We are starting to paint next month...I can't wait! I think we may have decided on his name...but it is not set in stone. Mason Roger Maki...what do you think? That is what we are calling him for now...unless we fall in love with something else in the next 108 days (give or take a few!)

This is a sign my mom got us...I just LOVE it!

Here is his bassinet (that Kev's cousin gave us!)...right now it is filled with the crib bedding! I can't wait until we can put our little man in there =)
This is our new car seat and stroller set...is it ridiculous that I get so excited over a car seat?! Maybe...but I love it! And I got my husbands approval, although he thought the polka dots were a little girly.

Oh little Nikes! I got to see one of my best friends, Erin, this weekend. We did some shopping - and of course I just wanted to look at baby things =) We got some great deals on these shoes. I got the black ones for $6 and Auntie Erin bought him the other pair for $12! We were quite excited!!!
I hope May gets here soon so we can meet our little Mason! Until then I will keep counting down...almost to the double digits!
